Koa Display Cases for Hawaiian Cultural Artifacts Marin Towers, Honolulu, Hawaii

Various taxes on tourism in Hawaii support the Arts in Public Spaces grants. The 1% for the Arts competitions keep the focus on the arts in Hawaii, and foster create activity. A colleague entered this proposal and won for the concept, but was unable to build the piece. I was called in to meet the deadline.

The cases are simple but massive. The most difficult element was the projecting panels on the doors, which feature koa veneer over a pyramidal base. The remainder of the case is solid koa, with the exception of the book-matched veneer on the pediment. The back panels in the interior are covered with natural linen.
